Actor Bala and Amritha exchange engagement ring

Tamil-Malayalam film actor Bala exchanged engagement ring on Monday morning  with Asianet star singer 2007 fame Amritha Suresh in a function at Taj Earth Hotel in Nedumbassery near Ernakulam. Other than the close relatives of both Bala and Amritha, director Roshan Andrews, actor Sanker, producer Jagadeesh Chandran and Radhika, wife of actor Suresh Gopi attended the function. Amritha  hails from Idappally near Ernakulam.  Bala is a Tamilian and started his career  by acting in Tamil films. Now he is more  engaged in Malayalam films.

According to reports, he has been roped in for 'Yanthram'. This flick being directed by Shankar is the talk of the town since it stars superstar Rajnikanth in the lead. It also stars Aishwarya Rai as the female lead.

Priyamani rubbishes marriages rumours

`Janakan' by Mohanlal and Suresh Gopi

Mohanlal-Suresh Gopi film has named `Janakan'. The shoot is progressing at Vandannoor at Neyattinkara near Thiruvananthapuram. The investigative character film is directed by debutant N.R. Sanjeev. S.N. Swamy has written the screen play. The story develops in a village, where three friends Viswan, Monayi from Trichur and Pazhani live together. Viswan's family includes wife Nirmala and daughter Anu. Anu was an air hostess trainee in the city. One day somebody got murdered near their place and these three friends were suspected.

Vikraman Nair bagged the Ramu Kaariat

Vikraman Nair has bagged the Ramu Kaariat award instituted by `Thriprayar Nadakavirunnu organising committee'  for his comprehensive contribution for theatre.  The award includes a purse of  Rs 10,001 and a citation. Actress  K.P.A.C Lalitha will be given away the award  in connection with the  function of Thriprayar Nadakavirunnu  at Priyadarshini hall  in Thriprayar   on September 26  at 5.30 pm.

International film festival begins on December 11 @ Trivandrum

Kerala State Chalachitra Academy's 14th Thiruvananthapuram International Film Festival (IFFK 2009) will start on December 11.The festival will end on December 18. The main attraction of the festival will be the competition category of Asian, African and Latin American films. Two hundred films from 60 countries will be screened in the categories of World Cinema, Retrospectives of Mrinal Sen, Homages, Films about Che Guevara, Indian Cinema Today and New Malayalam Cinema.

Valayar Paramashivam - Dileep

The name ‘Valayar Paramashivam’ definitely rings a bell somewhere. We had heard this name in the Dileep-Kavya Madhavan starrer Malayalam movie Runway. Malayalam superstar Mammootty and Tamil star Sarath Kumar inaugurated the website for their forthcoming release, Pazhassi Raja in Chennai on Tuesday. But the focus was clearly on a collaboration of a different kind.Tamil and Malayalam stars sharing screen space seems to be the trend of the season. If Mohanlal and Kamal Hassan have teamed up for Unnaippoal Oruvan, then Mammooty and Sarath are coming together after all most 19 years, for the historical drama Pazhassi Raja.

Popular Malayalam actress Kavya Madhavan, who has been going through a tumultuous phase in her married life (her marriage with Nishal Chandra is on the rocks), has reportedly signed a horror film titled Maadan Kolli (Ghost Buster) to be directed by Army officer-turned filmmaker Major Ravi, known for his war movies Keerthichakra, Mission 90 Days and Kurukshetra.

The 1992 hit movie "Yodha" which featured Mohanlal and Madhubala and in fact, one of the first movies of AR Rahman will go in for the making of a second part by the next year. This new project will be directed by Sanjeev Sivan and will be made in Hindi, as well. Big names like AR Rahman, Richard Herrovites, Sreekarprasad, Santhosh Sivan and Sean Kerbey will team up for this thriller which will be produced by Network 18.

No plans to enter politics by Mammootty

Mammooka, as he is affectionately known by millions of his fans worldwide, can essay a character with ease as long as it has something to say, because the inane isn’t for him. The star is all excited about his magnum opus Pazhassi Raja, scripted by MT Vasudevan Nair and directed by veteran Hariharan. The period drama is the costliest Malayalam film, with a budget of around Rs 25 crore.

55th National Film Awards-Malayalam cinema sweeps

Malayalam cinema made an impressive sweep at the 55th National Film Award. Renowned Malayalam film director Adoor Gopalakrishnan got the best director award for Naalu Pennungal. Ouseppachan is the Best Music director for Ore Kadal, Pattanam Rasheed got the award for best make-up for Pardesi and B Ajit for Editing for Naalu Pennungal.
